Past indefinite tense এর ব্যবহার || Tense

Past Indefinite Tense- এর ব্যবহার:

(i) অতীতকালের দিন তারিখ বা সময়ের উল্লেখ থাকলে:
I met him yesterday.

(ii) Ago, Since যুক্ত Sentence-এ:
I met him long ago. He met me long since.

(iii) অতীতকালের কোন অভ্যাসগত কর্ম বুঝাতে:
He always carried an umbrella.

কিন্তু অনিয়মিত অভ্যাস বুঝাতে Verb-এর Present form-এর পুর্বে would/used to ব্যবহৃত হয়।
He would (used to) get up early in the morning.

(iv) বিনয়,ভদ্রতা বা অনুমোদন প্রকাশ করতে Present/Future Tense -এর পরিবর্তে:
Would (will- এর past form) you lend me some money, please?
Could (can- এর past form) you tell me the time, please?

(v) কোন সময় জানতে চাওয়া হলে:
When did you come?

(vi) সময়ের উল্লেখ না থাকা সত্ত্বেও কোন একটি নির্দিষ্ট সময়ে কোন কাজ সম্পন্ন হওয়া বুঝালে:
The train was ten minutes late.

(vii) Unreal past- এর ক্ষেত্রে as if, as though, it is time, it is high time,if, only, wish, would sooner, would rather-এর পর:
I wish I sang.
It is high time we left the place.

(viii) অতীতে কোন কাজ চলছিল এরূপ বোঝাতে Past Continuous-এর পরিবর্তে:
While we played (were playing),a plane flew over us.

(ix) Since- এর প্রথম অংশ Present Indefinite বা Present Perfect Tense-এর হলে, পরের অংশ Past Indefinite Tense হয়।
It is many years since I came here.

** আবার শেষের অংশ Past Perfect হলে, প্রথম অংশ Past Indefinite হয়।
It was long since I had seen her last.
